Karcher Agency Helps Northville Family With Unexpected "Extreme Makeover"
Karcher Agency Helps Northville Family with Unexpected “Extreme Makeover” DEARBORN, Mich. – (March xx, 2007) – Only a few months in their new home, Northville resident Brian Matelic, wife Cathy and three young children never anticipated how quickly their lives could change. The day of July 17, 2006 is one that Matelic and his family will not likely forget. On what should have been a normal summer afternoon, fire ignited an adjacent home under construction and quickly spread to theirs and another neighboring home—destroying all of his family’s possessions including a 2004 Corvette convertible in the garage.
“I was away from home, and it was my seven-year old son Brandon who noticed the smoke and alerted my wife,” said Matelic. “She was ready to take a shower and quickly gathered the children, including our infant daughter, to safety.”
Matelic admits how fortunate his family was to escape harm and recalled how his insurance agent Michael Rice from the Karcher Agency sent out a restoration company and an adjustor right away. “Our adjustor cut a check on the spot,” added Matelic.
Including the house, a car in the garage and a damaged Hummer in the drive-way, the family’s loss was more than $1.5 million. Matelic, who works in real estate, has several other properties covered by insurance through the Karcher Agency and credits the agency with smoothing the way following their tremendous ordeal.
The family was able to quickly relocate into a model home in the same neighborhood, which they decided to purchase rather than wait for their fire-damaged house to be rebuilt.
“Providing an inventory of everything we owned was the most difficult,” added Matelic who advises people to take pictures and write down everything from hangars to bed linens to furniture.
Unlike families who are selected for the popular television show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” the Matelic family is grateful that they had the insurance coverage needed to fully cover their loss and an agent who attentively helped them through the process.
